Fabulous fashion et al, from designer to high street, as Monoir sees it.

My muse, Yasmin Sewell

Yasmin, described recently by Tommy Ton in 2010's best dressed on style.com as 'never too contrived and always at ease, knows exactly how to adopt a signature piece and make it her own'. I love that she's an Australian who's had her own trials and tribulations in London but has gone from strength to strength starting with her own Soho boutique, to Buyer at Browns, now Consultant to Liberty and the world. Having been interviewed for her Assistant role this year I am even more in awe of her personality, style and energy. She's photographed here with Australian jewellery designer Michelle Jank.

Prim & proper on the front line

Ladies, take note of Calvin Klein's front row of Julianne Moore, Kerry Washington, Isabel Lucas and Katie Holmes looking polished and very SS11 already. Ladylike chic in demure autumn pastels, perfectly coiffed hair, toned skin and ankle strapped high heels. Time to grow up girls.

My PERFECT leather jacket

I love the fact this Helmut Lang Droid leather jacket (£935) isn't like all the others. There's a subtle biker reference but the draping is standout. On trend but one that you'd have forever without getting sick of nor it dating. That's my philosophy and this ticks all the boxes.

Christopher Kane SS11

Oh, how I'm loving graphic prints. And always a fan of neon paired with subtle shades like pastel pink or dove grey. These designs are derived from such simple ideas but look totally new, unique and fresh for Summer. That was always the challenge I gave myself in my fashion design classes, coming up with something that no one had ever seen before.

Prints charming

Hello Sass & Bide LFW SS11! Combining the minimalism trend for AW10 seen at the likes of Chloe, Celine and Stella McCartney, with SS11's splash of prints shown on the catwalks of Marc Jacobs, Christopher Kane and Rodarte. It's also a slight nod (with an Australian flavour) to the lady-like prim ensembles we've seen at Prada and Miu Miu. But enough name dropping...just look at this collection. At first I thought hmmm, it's a bit 'this' season, not very fashion forward or inventive (which I love S&B for) but looking at the detail, they've chosen a great colour palette, the prints are unique, shapes fluid and everything is just so wearable but with a twist. I NEED the jacket with a scarf like insert (I could see a collaboration with Dion Lee would suit here) and love the styling of the bushy neck pieces. Shame London's about to get cold, but Australian's in Spring can be inspired instantly...and put your name on the waiting list for next year! Bravo Sass & Bide!

London's Vogue Fashion Night Out

Wednesday 8th September brought out the cream of the London crop to the high streets. Whether it was Gwyneth at Stella McCartney or Manolo Blahnik at Liberty (lining up for, above)... designers, brands and stores got on board to impress. You couldn't help but feel part of the buzz, helped especially by the cocktails that were endless in every store (this would never happen in tight budgeted, Brisbane, Australia). Sponsored by Vogue, their spokesperson credits the worldwide initiative as bringing the customer and designer out for a night of celebration of fashion where they can party and mingle together. I say it's just another marketing plot to make consumers spend while value adding to the experience for the feel good factor. But hey, I'm all for it if it means an added bonus like free Tarot reading at Liberty. Hope you made the most of it in your city!

It's time to layer up

Falling in love with Acne each season is easy.
The Fall 2010 collection sticks to winters trend of neutral /camel /beige /fur /shearling but with it's own gorgeous twist. It's about the draping, layers, those printed leggings, throw in this seasons obligatory long pencil skirt and braclets on the ankle! The stylist has put just the right quirky touch on each outfit. I can't wait to visit the new stand alone store that's opened up near Dover Street Market, London.

Watch out!

Chanel came out with the chunky J12 white ceramic diamond chronograph watch that was swoon worthy and oh so lux. Now with the men's tailoring trend becoming stronger, it was only a matter of time that mainstream brands provided something affordable. And Michael Kors, at £199, has provided the goods...and what a better than good job he's done! This season's offering from him in purple or champagne and gold as pictured are on my wish list!

Pretty little thing

Aminaka Wilmont at Selfridges £455.

This Scandinavian duo have created a gorgeous busy pattern that perfectly suits the shape of this simple design with a twist. Cute sleeves, slight asymetric neckline, form fitting...everything that I love in a dress but with a hefty price tag. Shame.

Alexander McQueen's Final Collection RIP

Beautiful, just beautiful. Pieces of art but utterly wearable. A genius that will be missed after his suicide this year.

Yeti fever

Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel likes his men wild and women fury. The menswear catwalk costumes have even been used in his advertising campaign. Attention grabbing, yes. I'll leave it up to you if you think they're purely a media stunt or actually wearable. The womens collection has all the characteristics of a Chanel show, bulked up and taken to the extremes. My mother used to own a similar pair of these boot, but the short version. You can imagine how much I laughed when I was 14 years old, discovering them. The charity shop will have the last laugh.
My choice, however, is Lanvin Fall 2010. Thanks to Alber Elbaz, the proportions, structure and embellishment made me want to share this collection. The dress I've chosen isn't even the best (so many great pieces to choose from!) but has all the elements that made this show great. The fury shoes are more refined than at Chanel. Just imagine them with skinny jeans also. The dress shows off a svelt figure, contrasted by the large shoulders, topped off with feather detail. Winter gets sexy. Fire! Fire!

Bound to set hearts on fire are these pieces by Issi constructed of reused firehose. Truely unique eco-chic. Snap up the Girl on Fire purse £120 and the Volcano messenger bag £260 from Selfridges.

Bearded Boys

I'm enjoying my bus rides to work at the moment as we drive down Kingsland Rd from Dalston to Liverpool Street in London's East. It's the catwalk show that keeps my eyes glued to the pavement and from reading my book. The look that makes my heart melt everytime (and I'm sorry but the photos I've found don't do the boys I've seen justice) is a guy sporting a bushy beard, with potentially even long trimmed healthy locks generally with the standard Shoreditch uniform du jour of denim shirt, rolled up beige/camel/khaki chinos, wayfarers and brogues, loafers or deck shoes.
The above Italian shot by the Sartorialist has it going on. This grey fox appears confident, yet relaxed. Bottega Veneta's runway in the other two pictures shows off a polished version.

Isabel Marant Fall 2010

Model, Freja Beha Erichsen, wears a new direction for Isabel. Gone are the suede cuffed ankle boots everyone has come to love and instead we see another totally wearable collection that isn't ground breaking, but it's edgy and chic. This is a perfect staple outfit in every girls' wardrobe. LOVE the cuffed trousers, burnt orange knit (predictable, but very 'autumn'), this seasons denim, and a great skinny, 3/4 sleeved, square shouldered, fitted leather jacket. Then of course there's the bowed, super cute pumps. All very ooh la la.

Kids. Fingers in the Nose!

How achingly cool are these kids?! Their attitude is expressed directly through their clothing so I can only imagine the tribes that the designers and parents hang out in. The label is French, Fingers in the Nose. Yep, love it. And if I had children, although I wouldn't want them to be so self absorbed (especially from such a young age!), I'd certainly like them to have a bit of confidence which I think these outfits give.

Cutie Pie

The Shay Todd Eyelet Bikini £225 is just too adorable! And I'd think for that price you would want to get use of of it layered over a singlet/boob tube or be cheeky and wear it on it's own with long tube skirt or cut off denim shorts when the sun is shining on these glorious London Summer days.

BOOM!

The Mawi gold dynamite bangle. Enough spike to satisfy a seasonal trend but sparks enough curiosity to become a favourite forever! Monoir likes!

Girl crush

Australian Isabel Lucas, always rocking cool, bohemian chic is here in California after Coachella. I saw her in an equally cute green vintage floral frock during De La Soul's set on day 3. I may have been obvious in my stalking. But she truely is BEAUTIFUL. So it's hard not to stare!

Underground love

The simple things to be grateful for, so discussed tonight, are found even on the underground on a Saturday night in London. Firstly there's the (I assume) German who says 'Bless you' when I sneeze. Then there's the traffic controller at Leicester Square who's calling the train approaching and the doors closing like we're high flyers in a Las Vegas Casino. Commuters cheering away as if they've won the jackpot. Simple pleasures, not simple minds.

TassleTastic

Tassles surfaced quite a few years ago and even though I don't believe they ever totally went away, they're definately more abundant this Spring...and I'm quite impartial to a swinging earring, rope belt or decorated bag with the pretty little things!
